I will take another look at MS Support before I go back to the vendor for a replacement. Go into the advanced power settings, find the HDD section and tell it to shut off the Hard disk 'Never', then apply and save. All issues, including random shutdowns are back. Issue with Power button is shutdown iso sleep is back. At least this gives some hope hardware is not the problem. This seems to have solved all issues (for now). I've reset my Surface using a recovery drive. The sleep function still doesn't work when I close the cover, but the situation is workable now. This resolved the shutdowns and the issue with the power button. At the bottom left you should now find a field with Safe Mode. Keep it pressed until the sim-pin is queried. Once the screen is activated and displays the samsung start logo, immediately hold the volume quieter button. Then keep the power on/off button pressed to reboot the smartphone. Idk why a factory reset wouldn't be able to do the job as well, if a USB recovery could work, but oh well. Power off the Samsung Galaxy S7 completely.
